National Defence Academy (NDA) is the Joint Services academy of the Indian Armed Forces. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the National Defence Academy (NDA) Exam every year. NDA is a national-level exam conducted twice a year April and September to select male and female candidates for various defence services. This is one of the most sought-after defence jobs in India to join the Defence Forces as an Officer by male candidates. Since 2021, female candidates are also eligible for admission to National Defence Academy (NDA). The selection of eligible males & females into NDA will be done on the basis of the written test followed by the Personality Test.
National Defence Academy exam or NDA exam is conducted to select eligible candidates for the Indian Armed Forces, where selected candidates of all three services-Army, Navy and Air Force undergo training before pre-commissioning training in the respective academies. Candidates qualifying the written exam are called for SSB Interview. Only Indian nationals both female and male candidates can apply for NDA 1 2023. Candidates must have born not earlier than July 2, 2004 and not later than July 1, 2007 are eligible for the exam. The date of birth is accepted by the commission as entered in the matriculation or secondary school leaving certificate or in a certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to matriculation. Candidates who have passed Class 12 can apply for the Army wing of NDA. Those who have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics can apply for Air Force and Naval wings of NDA. Candidates who are appearing in the Class 12 can also apply.
Apart from Indian origin, candidates from other countries can also appear
for NDA 2023. For the same the candidate must either be
An India citizen
A citizen of Bhutan or,
A citizen of Nepal
Tibetan refugees who came over to India before January 1, 1962 with the
intention of permanently settling in India are also eligible to appear for NDA
2023.
An Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African
Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia,
Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently
settling in India are also eligible to appear for NDA 2023 exam.
Note: The candidate from other countries other than India must possess a
certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India
Minimum Age: 16.5 years
Maximum Age: 19.5 years The date of birth will be calculated as mentioned
on the Matriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a
certificate recognised by an Indian University as equivalent to Matriculation.
Army Wing of National Defence Academy:The Candidates willing to apply for Indian Army must possess a class 12/HSC in 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
Air Force, Navy and Naval Academy of National Defence Academy: The Candidates willing to apply for Air Force, Navy and Naval Academy must possess a class 12/HSC in 10+2 pattern of School Education with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
As per Physical standard:Candidates willing to appear for NDA 2023 must be physically and mentally fit, according to the prescribed physical standards of the conducting authority i.e. SSB (Services Selection Board). A candidate recommended by the SSB will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers.
The candidate must possess a good physical and mental health and free from any disease/disability which is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of Military duties. The candidates selected by the authority will be admitted to the academy for further training.
Minimum height required is 157 cm for Army, Navy and Naval Academy while 162.5 cm for Air Force. NDA height for girls is 157 cms. A leverage of 5 cm is provided to Gorkhas and individuals belonging to hills of North- Eastern regions.
On December 21, 2022, the official NDA notification 2023 for the UPSC NDA 2023 exam was released. It included the total number of vacancies that will be filled through the NDA 1 exam 2023. A total of 395 vacancies are to be filled this year through the NDA 1 Exam 2023 for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA), with 352 of those vacancies going to the NDA and the remaining 42 to NA. Marital Sex:Candidates must be unmarried in order to appear for the NDA exam.
Gender:Male & Female Candidates both are eligible to apply for NDA.
NDA 2023 Exam will be organized two times in a year through offline mode (written test). NDA (I) will be held on 16th April 2023 & NDA (II) will be held on 3rd September 2023. Here we have mentioned the detailed exam pattern of NDA exam:
• Exam Mode: The exam will be conducted through offline mode.
• Answer Mode: Candidates must use black ball point pen to mark their answers.
• Exam Duration: The duration of the examination will be 2 hours 30 minutes.
• Type of Question: The question paper will be objective type questions.
• Paper: The NDA exam consists of 2 papers i.e. Mathematics and General
Ability.
• Total Marks: The Mathematics paper contains 300 marks while General
Ability test holds 600 marks. The written test will be of total 900 marks.
• Negative Marking: For every incorrect response, there will be negative
marking in the examination. For maths 0.83 marks, for English, 1.33 and for
GK 1.33 marks will be deducted.
• SSB Interview: After clearing the written test, candidates have to go
through the SSB Interview. The interview process will have total 900 marks.
• Language: The question paper of Mathematics and PART B of General
Ability test will be available in both English and Hindi languages.
